Classic TT: First Practice Report

Classic TT: First Practice Report

Going with the form book, Silicone Engineering Racing’s Dean Harrison was in a class of his own during this evening’s opening timed Classic TT practice session, heading the yesteryear time sheets by over half a minute.

Lapping from a standing start at 122.266 mph, Harrison was on course for dipping over the 123 mph mark on his flying lap, prior to stopping at Glen Duff.

Despite this his standing start lap speed (122.266), still gave him a pretty substantial advantage at the helm of the time sheets.

Under a tenth of a second covered nearest pursuers Andy Dudgeon (118.933) and Horst Saiger (118.92) who both enjoyed accomplished starts to their latest Classic TT voyages.

Same applied to fourth, fifth, sixth quickest Michael Rutter (116.379), Michael Evans (115.855) and new Mistral Racing team member Paul Jordan (115.606).

Fellow Classic TT debutant Adam McLean set the Lightweight 250 pace, reeling off a series of impressive laps on the Birch Racing Yamaha, chalking up a best lap speed from this evening of 114.74 mph.

Leading the challenge to next gen roads star McLean was Sidecar TT legend Dan Sayle, who lapped close to the 110 mph mark, lapping at 109.671 mph.

With increasing mist, fog setting in around the Mountain Course, Junior 350, Senior 500 class competitors were only able to complete a single timed lap.

Despite this, notable lap speeds were still recorded including John McGuinness (104.95) marking his return to roads action by finishing top of the Senior class time sheets.

Looking in good form aboard the Team Winfield Paton, Morecambe’s McGuinness finished close to 40 seconds clear of nearest challenger pace wise Maria Costello MBE (102.031).

Setting the Junior class pace was Davies Motorsport’s Dominic Herbertson (99.708), closely followed on the time sheets by reigning class champion Michael Rutter (99.191).
