Highly rated next generation roads star Joe Thompson will make the step up to Superstock, Superbike competition in 2019, having recently secured a deal to lead WH Racing’s International roads challenge.
Increasing and increasing in stature within the closed roads fraternity, York’s Thompson has excelled in particular in recent times on Super Twins machinery.
Excelling throughout 2018 on the Mark Coverdale backed S1-R Paton, at a glance highlights aboard the stylish, nimble, competitive Italian mount for the Yorkshireman have included podium finishes at the North West 200 and Southern 100 and Super Twins success at the Post TT Races.
Additionally an excellent fifth in the Bennetts Lightweight race of TT 2018, he impressed many with his race craft, raw speed and ability to mix it with many an established class front runner.
Extremely proficient as well on Supersport machinery, plus a formidable exponent of two stroke 250 machinery, he’s quickly developed into a racer that doesn’t have many if any weak elements in his racing make up.
Looking forward to tackling for the first time in 2019 a 1000cc steed at the North West 200, TT and Ulster Grand Prix, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to become an accomplished, high calibre big bike exponent.
New employers WH Racing, who are set to run the former Dundrod 150 National race victor next year on the S1000RR BMW previously piloted by Dominic Herbertson, recently stated via their Twitter page their delight at securing Thompson’s services for 2019:
“Joey rode for the team at the last round of British Supersport at Brands Hatch in October, and since then we are pleased that a deal has been agreed to continue the partnership through into 2019.
Everyone here at WH Racing are looking forward to new challenges and to our first outing in 2019, and are looking forward to working with Joe. Thank you to our loyal sponsors and supporters.”
