KDM Hire Cookstown 100: 40 Racers Go Sub 1 Minute 37 Seconds

The quality of competition at the 99th KDM Hire Cookstown 100 was showcased by no less than 40 racers lapping sub 1 minute 37 seconds.

On route to Open class spoils, Derek Sheils illustrated the potential of his new Roadhouse Macau BMW, by going close to surpassing Michael Dunlop’s existing lap record.

Sheils best lap time of 1 minute 23.387 seconds, stood just 0.746 shy of Dunlop’s spellbinding record lap time from 2013.

Aside from eight times Cookstown winner, others to register impressive lap times under 1 minute 26 seconds were Michael Sweeney (1.24.001), Thomas Maxwell (1.24.944), Neil Kernohan (1.25.123).

New Super Twins lap record holder Adam McLean (1.25.176), Paul Jordan (1.25.464) and Supersport race runner-up Darryl Tweed (1.25.558) who I’m sure the whole pure road racing fraternity wishes a very speedy recovery, following a heavy fall in the Lightweight 250/400 race.

Fastest Orritor Circuit debutant was 12th fastest competitor overall, Danny Tomlinson Racing’s Dan Harrison (1.30.193).

The overall forty quickest racers from what is the only Irish roads event of 2020, reads as follows:
