By Good conditions all round, intense competition, great racing always gives chances for racers to set huge new personal best lap times.
This was very much the case at the 69th Scarborough Gold Cup, as Supersport pace around Oliver’s Mount went to an other worldly level.
As you’ll already widely noticed the two quickest solo racers from the weekend’s action were Ashcourt Racing’s Lee Johnston and returning to the RC Express Racing (Dafabet Devitt Racing) set-up, Dean Harrison.
Johnston, Harrison in the feature, blue riband Steve Henshaw Gold Cup race, blitzed between them the existing Supersport lap record on no less than 13 occasions!
It’s Bradford’s Harrison who adds the Supersport lap record to his already impeccable racing CV, via the previously reported incredible lap time of 1 minute 44.842 seconds.
Steve Henshaw Gold Cup winner Johnston almost joined him in going sub 1 minute 45 seconds, registering a huge new PB lap time of 1 minute 45.017 seconds.
Dominic Herbertson (1.47.342) who endured a pretty challenging final day of racing at Scarborough, places overall third quickest over the weekend – lap time mentioned near racers name.
A further three racers dipped below the 1 minute 48 seconds mark, Gold Cup rostrum finisher Joe Thompson (1.47.555), Jim Hind (1.47.839) and DC Racing’s Mike Norbury (1.47.867).
Finalising the fastest competitors from a record breaking Gold Cup meeting were Joe Akroyd (1.49.344) who we wish a very speedy recovery, new Super Twins lap record holder Jamie Coward (1.49.468), Rob Hodson (1.50.020) and Tom Weeden (1.50.390).
