Walderstown: Qualifying Round Up

Walderstown: Qualifying Round Up

Day 1 of competition at the latest instalment of the hugely popular Walderstown Road Races, saw Irish roads royalty, next gen stars, seasoned campaigners produce an array of tumultuous performances.

Re producing the form that took him to five wins in a day at the newly reincarnated Enniskillen Road Races, Mullingar’s Derek McGee powered to a hat trick of four stroke class pole positions.

Quickest in the Open, Supersport and Super Twins qualifying sessions by over 1 second, the reigning Irish road race Superbike champion underlined why many make him favourite to scoop this weekend, multiple class victories.

Nearest pursuer to the on top form McGee in Open, Supersport qualifying was Martin Jones Racing’s Michael Sweeney, whilst the challenge to the Bennetts Lightweight TT runner up within Super Twins qualifying was lead by second quickest TT newcomer in history, Cookstown BE Racing’s Davey Todd.

Fans favourite Stephen Morrison topped the Lightweight 400 time sheets as 2nd, 3rd, 4th quickest Brian Loughlin, Aaron Boyd and Gillian McGaw also showed a deft touch on 400 machinery.

Junior Support qualifying honours went to Niall Power, who held off the attentions of fellow next gen roads stars Liam Chawke and Enniskillen victor Darryl Anderson to scoop pole position.

William Hara edged out Wayne Sheehan by just over tenth of a second to head the Senior Support time sheets, whilst classics specialist Barry Davidson reigned supreme in Junior 350 Classics qualifying.
