Unfortunately, as widely anticipated by certain roads scene insiders, on-going insurance problems mean that no road races will this take place this year in the Republic of Ireland.
This is exceptionally disappointing (could use stronger words) news for racers, teams, fans, anyone involved in pure road racing.
Skerries 100 organisers, Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club who had already postponed the meet traditionally run in July, back to September, stated today via Facebook:
“Following the news of there officially being no insurance, we have no choice but to cancel the Skerries 100, which we had rescheduled for the 9th and 10th of September.
We are gutted it has come to this however we are hopeful that road racing will return in 2024.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all riders, spectators and loyal sponsors for their continued support and we hope to return in 2024.”
Faugheen 50 organisers, Faugheen 50 Supporters Club Ltd, additionally issued a succinct statement via Facebook:
“It’s with deep regret that after serious consideration and in light of no insurance being available for the sports governing body (Motorcycling Ireland to date).
The Faugheen Supporters Club Ltd has sadly decided to cancel this years Faugheen 50 Road Races.”
All of the above now means that at present, Irish road racing 2023 style will end in July at the Armoy ‘Race of Legends’.
