Derek Sheils retained the Walderstown ‘Race of the South’ Grand Final crown, as he bounced back from losing his unbeaten run on Superbike machinery, at the national meeting’s.
Showing the kind of form, which has to rank him amongst pure road racing’s leading big bike specialists, the Cookstown BE Racing rider finished 5.749 clear of Derek McGee, who in turn was just 0.468 in front of William Dunlop.

Outside of the podium finishers, Michael Sweeney and Brian McCormack enjoyed productive races, finishing fourth and fifth, whilst Supersport winner Adam McLean ended another prodigious meeting, in sixth place.
Graham Kennedy secured sixth, Paul Jordan battled his way to eighth, Davey Todd ninth continues to impress, as Kevin Fitzpatrick wrapped up the top ten.
In total 18 riders finished a race, which took Derek Sheils tally of wins, within the Irish national roads scene in 2017, up to six.
On course for a third Irish road race Superbike championship title, he will go into the upcoming Faugheen and Armoy meeting’s, confident of more premier honours.
