Ten Questions Challenge – Nigel Rea

One of pure road racing’s great personalities, experienced Mountain Course pilot Nigel Rea is the next racer to take part in Road Racing News, ten questions challenge.

12th within the Classic Superbike encounter of the 2012 Manx Grand Prix, his answers to the popular series of questions, are as follows.

Q1: Favourite National Roads Meeting?

“I loved the Jurby road race on the Isle of Man before it stopped. It was my first pure road race. Now I would say Aberdare Park in the UK and Walderstown in Ireland.”

Q2: Favourite Racing Bike?

“I really enjoy the 600’s on the roads with a good Super twin a close second.”

Q3: What’s the best part of competing on the roads?

“Pure adrenaline and excitement plus the respect of other riders, and most importantly the fans who relate to what we do so well. Even the paddocks at road race meetings are the best.”

Q4: TT, North West 200 or Ulster Grand Prix?

“I’ve raced all 3 circuits, and whilst only racing the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix once each and hoping to again, I can’t see either competing with the Mountain Course.”

Q5: Most Respected Rival?

“All of them from the fastest factory rider to the newest privateer. Huge respect to anyone that road races.”

Q6: Best roads moment thus far?

“There are oh so many but two standouts are winning my first silver replica in the Classic TT finishing 2nd Privateer, winning my first Manx GP replica was super special as it was a good friend, Anthony Stock who’s bike I rode.

But most stand out moment was watching and helping my Son Ben win the newcomers Manx GP race.”

Q7: Is their one place or country in the world, where you would like to see a roads meeting held?

“I’d simply love to see a few national road meetings in the UK.”

Q8: Who’s your road racing hero?

“Present is John McGuinness and past Joey Dunlop.”

Q9: Supersport or Superbike?

“Supersport, when I’m mature enough might try a Superbike, last one I owned kept spitting me off!”

Q10: Pole position or fastest lap?

“Pole position for me every time.”
