The fifth racer to take part in Road Racing News, recently launched Racing on the Irish Roads – Racers Recollections series is 2022 Irish Road Race Junior Support Champion Jonathan Watt.
His answers to the Irish road racing themed set of questions, are as follows:
Q1: What is your first Irish road racing memory?
“No particular first memory as I’ve been around the road racing paddocks from when I was child, with my uncle (Kenny McCrea) who raced up to 2006 when he had a career ending crash at Tandragee that year.”
Q2: Present favourite Irish road race?
“Tandragee as it’s my local Circuit.”
Q3: Who is your most respected fellow Irish roads exponent?
“Michael Sweeney”
Q4: If you could alter one aspect, in particular, within the sport, what would it be and why?
“To spread out the races as most of races are back-to-back. For somebody like myself who races on a budget, any mechanical issues could see you miss 2/3 rounds and valuable Championship points.”
Q5: To date what has been your favourite Irish roads moment?
“Winning the Junior Support race at Armoy to take the lead at the top of the Championship.”
Q6: Irish road racing summed up in one word, what would it be?
“Expensive”
Q7: Is there any Irish roads event, that you haven’t raced at yet that you would like to?
“In 2022 I was fortunate to compete at all rounds of the Irish Championship, the Munster 100 and the Mid-Antrim where cancelled so hopefully these two events can run again in 2023, also I hope to compete at the North West 200 in 2023.”
