Norton’s TT Ambition

Norton has an ambition to get back to the top at the Isle of Man TT an event everyone recognises the popular manufacturer with. Having come back to competition on the mountain course for first time in many years in 2009 the Norton racing team elected to take time out of competition to get themselves ready for an improved attack on the most famous road racing circuit in the world.

In 2012 they where back with the new SG1 Norton piloted by reigning TT privateers championship winner Ian Mackman. Unfortunately due to inclement weather conditions the senior TT was cancelled which meant no race action at TT 2012 for Norton but following good pace during practice week the signs where good that Norton had developed a bike that would be capable of securing excellent results at TT 2013.

Top 20 finish in superbike race at TT 2013 secured by Ian Mackman was a fantastic result for the Norton which was followed by creditable results for Mackers and Dan Hegarty in the senior TT.

This year has seen Norton racing team up with Cameron Donald competing on the teams SG3 Norton. The two time TT winner showed good pace throughout practice week and the unique sounding bike was proving competitive in both superbike and senior races before mechanical issues struck.

Still Cameron secured highly creditable lap speed of over 124 mph during TT 2014 to prove that Norton are going in the right direction as they bid to bring back the great memories like in 1992 when Steve Hislop secured senior TT victory in one of the greatest TT races of all time.
