More International Road Race Victories During A Highly Productive Year Of Road Racing For Guy Martin

Guy Martin has secured more international road race victories during what has been a highly productive year of road racing for him.

The season began for the hugely popular rider at the Ian Watson spring cup road races at Oliver’s Mount. Eight times Scarborough gold cup winner Guy recorded three wins in a day which included feature spring cup race victory for the second year in succession.

Vauxhall international North West 200 was next on the horizon and opening supersport race saw the Tyco Suzuki by TAS rider produce one of his best ever performances around the triangle pushing Alastair Seeley all the way for race win as he achieved second place finish.

Eighth place finish in superstock race followed as Guy ended day one of racing at this years North West 200 in consistent style. Although best finish on day two of racing at the opening international road race of the season was only fifth position in feature superbike race it was still overall a good meeting for Guy as TT 2014 beckoned.

In recent years going into the worlds greatest road race the main questions always asked pre TT about the rider known for his go big or go home is can he will his first TT. Following a good practice week for him the answer to this question would soon be known as race week loomed on the horizon.

Dainese superbike race proved to be an absolute classic race with the lap record going three times. Throughout Guy was battling for second position with Conor Cummins, by the end of the six lap race he had recorded his first TT podium finish in two years finishing in second place.

Supersport races would see sixth and tenth place finishes as reliability issues stopped Guy from securing top five finish in superstock race his only non finish of race week. The blue riband of every TT for many the senior TT saw the rider who made his debut on the most famous road racing circuit in the world back in 2004 secure third position.

It was a good way to round off a much improved Isle of Man TT for Guy and Tyco Suzuki by TAS compared to their results in 2013. Following TT 2014 next road race coming up for the road racing star was the Southern 100.

Always a fan of the Southern 100 Guy secured second place finishes in 600/1000 and the two supersport races following solid, consistent, dependable and excellent all round performances.

Southern 100 solo championship saw him record his third solo championship win around Billown after winning a brilliant battle with 2014 lightweight TT winner Dean Harrison. Armoy road races where next on the horizon and Guy enjoyed a double race win with supersport and open race successes.

Plus second place finishes in supersport invitational race and grand final races meant he had his best Armoy road races to date having made his debut at the increasingly popular road race back in 2009.

Having previously won the Dundrod 150 superbike race back in 2007 Guy won this years race following a race long duel with Isle of Man TT lap record holder Bruce Anstey. The Ulster Grand Prix is always regarded as one of the road race circuits which the star of tv programme Speed loves competing at.

Third place finish in supersport race following a consistent performance and second position secured in feature superbike race meant overall it had been a good two days racing for Guy around Dundrod.

Overall with two international road race victories, two podium finishes at TT 2014, double race win at Armoy road races and more success around Oliver’s Mount its been a top season of racing in all for Guy. Of course the question remains of when a first TT victory will arrive but there’s no doubt that the immensely popular rider is regarded by many as one of the leading road racers in the world.
