Manx GP Preview Part 4 – Lightweight Race
The curtain raiser for the five strong races itinerary, the Dunlop Lightweight field whilst modest in size (32 entrants) features 41 TT victories, Classic TT winners, IRRC winners, various Manx GP winners, rostrum finishers.

Set to return to his road racing roots, 21 times TT winner Michael Dunlop is back aboard two stroke machinery.

Now mostly known for his fierce prowess in the Supersport, Super Twin, Superstock, Superbike categories, it’s easy to forget his pedigree on 250’s.

Fellow Countryman Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing), class winner in 2018, is another with the undeniable skillset to contend for race honours.

Same applies to Lightweight Manx lap record holder Jim Hind. Hind who impressed during his maiden TT tenure in May/June, lines up aboard the Dennis Trollope Racing TZ 250 Yamaha.

Nearest pursuer to the Padgetts Honda’s in 2019, many are tipping the national 250 Championship front runner to steadfastly contend for another MGP triumph.

Consistent class front runners, Laylaw Racing have secured another formidable rider line up which features ten times TT winner Ian Lougher, Adam McLean and Irish Road Race 125/Moto 3 Champion Michael Browne.

Added leading names TZ 250 Yamaha mounted include James Hillier, two stroke specialists Rhys Hardisty and Chris Moore plus fitness permitting Pierre Yves Bian (Martimotos Racing).

Others in the mix for standout finishes include number one plate holder Dominic Herbertson, John Chapman Racing team-mate Michael Sweeney, Goole’s Phil Harvey, Sidecar TT hero Dan Sayle.

Dave Hewson (Chris Barratt Transport), Pete Boast, Will Loder (CKS Precision/Realize Fit On Demand) and Stuart Hall who stated about his latest MGP campaign:

“Now I’ve a new bike with more speed I expect to move through the field. One to watch if all goes well.”

Further notable entrants include the French duo of Lancelot Unissart and Timothee Monot, Richard Parker, Tom Weeden, Dave Madsen Mygdal, Falcon Electrical Southport/PBR Racing team-mates Andy Jackson and Tom Snow.

Just one Mountain Course debutant is entered, Irish roads regular, Ramsey’s Gareth Arnold.

Distinct iconic action will be what’s anticipated in the popular Dunlop Lightweight class alongside great soundtracks, evoking memories from the heyday of 250 TT racing.
