Joe Akroyd Talks Racing Return, 2019 Plans, TT, Classic TT Ambitions

Hugely looking forward to returning to competitive action, multi Manx GP podium finisher Joe Akroyd is planning to step back into the Pure Road Racing scene in 2019, with attentions firmly placed upon competition at TT 2019 and the Classic TT Races.

Ruled out of competitive action for closing in on two years, following an incident at Glentramman during practice week at TT 2018, he’s showed sheer grit, relentless determination in abundance since to fight his way back to optimum race fitness.

Confident about his fitness ahead of this season, the third place finisher in the 2016 Senior Manx Grand Prix, who’s recently became a dad, stated about his planned return to competition:

“Yeah I’m mega excited to get back on the bike. Last year was tough, it’s the first time I’ve had to sit out a full season due to injury. My back just wasn’t ready and I also became a Dad in July.

I’m extremely lucky that I have an amazing group of loyal sponsors who have stuck by me throughout last year, and thanks to one of my sponsors Robbie Watterson, I have been able to secure an Ex-McAdoo ZX10RR (Kawasaki).

I am also hoping to be aboard the trusty GSX-R 600 Suzuki, that I rode in the 2016 and 2017 Manx GP’s.”

Adding that this season, isn’t about meeting specific feats, accomplishing personal goals, just enjoying his return to racing, he candidly said:

“This season I all about returning to the tracks and roads and enjoying my racing. I don’t think setting myself goals is going to help the job to be honest.

Obviously I know were I want to be, but I want to focus on enjoying myself and having no pressure.”

Concluding his thoughts on the season ahead, he stated:

“The main focus for me this season is to return to the TT and the Classic TT. My entry is in for the TT, and I’m planning all the necessary meetings and events to get my Mountain Course licence sorted.

I hope at the end of this season I have had a safe fast and successful year. It’s only possible because of the loyal people behind me and I look forward to the up coming season.”
