IRRC Imatranajo: Friday Practice Round Up

Supersport:

As widely anticipated, Wepol Racing Yamaha mounted Matthieu Lagrive (1.57.197) set the Supersport practice pace today at Imatranajo, finishing almost two seconds quicker than nearest pursuer Felix Nassi (1.59.127).

Third quickest behind RAM Racing Yamaha’s Nassi was fellow countryman Anssi Koski (1.59.904), whilst LSE Racing’s Christian Schmitz (2.00.074) also showed a potent turn of pace on route to finishing fourth fastest.

Event wildcard Sami Penna (2.00.312), Laurent Hoffmann (2.00.624) respectively fifth, sixth quickest, were closely followed pace wise by Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Ilja Caljouw (2.00.669), who finished closing in on one second quicker than Optimark Road Racing’s Pierre Yves Bian (2.01.636).

Finalising the ten quickest middleweight class competitors from today’s competitive action, were Luca Gottardi (2.01.920) and leading French solo racer at TT 2019, Xavier Denis (2.02.531).

Superbike:

Maintaining the form that took him past the 131 mph lap mark, in the closing stages of last week’s Dunlop Senior TT, Imatranajo newcomer Davey Todd reigned supreme in today’s opening IRRC Superbike practice session.

Lapping at 1 minute 52.922 seconds, Wepol Racing’s Todd was 0.746 quicker than reigning IRRC Superbike series champion Danny Webb (1.53.668).

YZF R1M Yamaha mounted Webb, who’s focusing his racing efforts this year on the World Endurance Championship, looks already to have quite a challenge on over the weekend, to match the speed, pace shown by ultra-impressive team mate Todd.

Local star, event wildcard Pauli Pekkanen (1.54.565) took third on the timing screens, as fourth, fifth placing’s on the overall times sheet were clinched by Marek Cerveny (1.54.635) and Martin Jessopp (1.55.034), to make it four Wepol Racing backed competitors in the top five in timed practice.

Lead Mountain Course newcomer of TT 2019 Lukas Maurer (1.55.157), was an excellent sixth quickest in front of German IRRC legend Didier Grams (1.55.728), whilst eighth quickest, Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Virgil Amber Bloemhard also quietly impressed (1.56.056).

Concluding the top ten fastest 1000cc machinery exponents today were local favourite Juha Kallio (1.56.581), and fellow countryman Marko Ratto (1.57.374).
