IRRC Hengelo: Action Packed Supersport Race Opener

IRRC Hengelo: Action Packed Supersport Race Opener

Conditions all round were dry, prominently favourable for Sunday morning’s IRRC Supersport race opener, at Hengelo.

A drama-filled contest, ultimately went to WRP Wepol Racing Parts Triumph exponent, Marek Cerveny.

Right from the start, it was action packed, Never Be Clever Racing’s Rhys Hardisty, was involved in a multi-rider incident on lap-one whilst pole-sitter Jorn Hamberg, had received a twenty-second jump start penalty.

Hamberg set on lap-three a new Varsselring, Supersport lap record of 1.49.391 seconds, which was then exceeded on the following lap by Derek McGee, 1.49.111 seconds.

A tight battle on track between McGee and Hamberg ensued from here, with afore-mentioned Czech roads scene legend Cerveny, keeping prime proximity.

With two laps to go, under 0.6 of a second separated on the road, McGee, Hamberg and Cerveny.

Then the next burst of drama (across lap seven), Darryl Tweed, Romain Cleaz Savoyen both, retired soon followed by former Duke Road Race Rankings Champion McGee, crashing out of the race-lead.

The race was soon after red-flagged, due to oil at corner five. Results were back to the end of lap six, leaving Cerveny the final P1 occupier ahead of fellow Czech rider Petr Najman.

Hamberg on aggregate timing (reminder twenty second, jump start penalty) dropped back to eighth with third taken by Team Schleizer Dreieck’s Gary Johnson.
