Interview Archive: Davey Todd, TT 2018

The day before the record breaking, history making Senior race of TT 2018, I was able to gain Davey Todd’s thoughts on becoming the inaugural RST Star of Tomorrow award winner.

Receiving the award for his sustained top draw performances during race week, the second quickest newcomer in Mountain Course racing history who went onto clinch the Privateers Championship crown, candidly spoke about his maiden two week TT tenure:

(Quotes, text originally published on 7th June 2018)

“Unbelievable I didn’t expect it at all, coming here we just wanted to learn as much as we can and keep progressing over the two weeks.

It’s been a real eye opener for sure, but every session out we’ve improved and improved and gone faster and faster, it’s amazed me how much pace we’ve actually had.

I’m still comfortable though, still not pushing the boundaries, riding within myself which I think you’ve got to do at this place, you can’t afford the risks. Just taking it slightly within myself and getting some good laps under our belt.”

Adding how the hard work in winter learning the Mountain Course, has well and truly paid off, the affable racer who’s set to sample all remaining Irish national roads events this year, said:

“To be honest I’ve put so much work into it, into coming to this place, for ten months now I’ve been studying the course.

Trips over, driving around in a car, watching on board footage, even playing the game doing whatever I can to learn the circuit.

You know I really have put the home work in, so I’m glad that we can come here and sort of sure that I have put the work in, I still didn’t expect to quite have this much pace, but none the less am still over the moon with it.”
