2014 Killalane Road Races Qualifying Round Up

Qualifying sessions at Killalane road races today saw many standout performances. Which included Michael Sweeney leading the way in super twins and 250 qualifying sessions. Michael competing on Cookstown Burrows engineering racing RS250 Honda following lap speed of 104.752 mph topped 250 qualifying.

Lap speed of 104.752 mph was secured to top super twins qualifying where Derek Mcgee and Jamie Hamilton both showed good speed in going second and third quickest. William Cowden lead the way in 125 qualifying with lap speed of 91.524 mph whilst classic b qualifying saw Richard Ford produce quickest time of 2 minutes 24.293 seconds.

Senior support would see Brendan Merrigan on top following lap time of 2 minutes 07.355 seconds with Graham Kennedy, Neil Lyons, Noel Carroll, Thomas Maxwell and Kevin Fitzpatrick completing top six.

Classic a qualifying proved to be an excellent one for Herbie Ronan finishing fastest as Jonathan Doran, Sam Kinkead, Sean Leonard, Michael Dunlop and Richard Ford finalised top six. Derek Mcgee already 2014 Irish road race supersport champion continued his superb season finishing on top in supersport qualifying.

Derek’s lap time of 1 minute 59.907 seconds was marginally quicker than Jamie Hamilton who finished marginally behind whilst Michael Sweeney two time junior Manx Grand Prix winner completed top three.

Michael Dunlop finished fourth fastest as Derek Sheils, John Walsh, Seamus Elliott, Andy Farrell, Michal Dokoupil and Dennis Booth rounded out a highly competitive top 10. Open race qualifying saw Jamie Hamilton produce a fine lap time of 1 minute 56.690 seconds to end quickest on Wilson Craig racing CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade superbike.

Michael Sweeney’s excellent day at Killalane continued finishing second in open qualifying on Martin Jones racing ZX10 Kawasaki. Derek Sheils went third fastest, John Walsh was fourth whilst Derek Mcgee completed top five.

Seamus Elliott secured sixth in qualifying on D&G Wray racing backed ZX10 Kawasaki as Davy Morgan, Alan Connor, Andy Farrell and Killalane road races newcomer Gareth Keys all acquired top ten placings. Michael Dunlop qualified in 14th position but expect the 11 time TT winner despite his starting position on the grid to be in contention for open race victory tomorrow.
