Ten Questions Challenge – Gary Dunlop

Ten Questions Challenge – Gary Dunlop

Son of the legendary Joey Dunlop, Irish roads 125/Moto 3 front runner Gary Dunlop is the next racer, to take part in Road Racing News ten questions challenge.

Team manager of the Joey’s Bar MCC Racing team, Gary’s answers to the popular series of questions are as follows:

Q1: Favourite National Roads Meeting?

“Favourite has to be Tandragee, it has everything. Armoy is a good circuit as well. There’s none I don’t like to be honest.”

Q2: Favourite Racing Bike?

“Has to be the RS125 Honda. Most riders have started off on these little bikes and you never lose your love for them, although they would drive you mad at times!”

Q3: What’s the best part of competing on the roads?

“I don’t really enjoy much of it to be honest, I get myself too many bikes to look after and it gets quite stressful.

I also suffer badly from nerves before races as well which leaves me not the best company. I enjoy a pint after I suppose!”

Q4: TT, North West 200 or Ulster Grand Prix?

“I’ve only done the Ulster GP but it’s always been my favourite regardless. No time for the North West 200, and the TT has me a nervous wreck watching every year.”

Q5: Most Respected Rival?

“I have a lot of respect for lots of riders, but I’ve had so much help from my cousins William and Paul Robinson, and Derek McGee has been a great help to me as well.

All three are so safe and fun to ride with, makes such a difference when you can trust another rider like I can with these boys.”

Q6: Best roads moment thus far?

“My favourite was a battle I had with Derek McGee during my first time at Tandragee, we passed each other so much every lap it was ridiculous. He beat me to the line, but I’ve never had so much fun on a bike.”

Q7: Is their one place or country in the world, where you would like to see a roads meeting held?

“I’m glad there’s one coming to County Fermanagh this year, there’s so many good biking people there and they’re so committed to the sport. Be nice to see their new meeting become a success.”

Q8: Who’s your road racing hero?

“Has to be my dad. Was a Dave Leach fan back in the day as well though!”

Q9: Supersport or Superbike?

“Supersport, find it far better racing to watch on the roads to be honest.”

Q10: Pole position or fastest lap?

“I’m the worst qualifier in the world, so I have to say fastest lap.”
