For multiple years one of the Isle of Man’s leading Mountain Course exponents, sixth place finisher in the 2004 Lightweight 400 TT Derran Slous, is the next racer to take part in Road Racing News, ten questions challenge.
14th within the 2015 Super Twins Manx Grand Prix, Derran’s answers to the popular series of questions, are as follows:
Q1: Favourite National Roads Meeting?
“Southern 100, best national meeting.”
Q2: Favourite Racing Bike?
“Favourite bike is a hard call. They’re all great from Supermoto to Super Twin to Superbike, although I used to really enjoy the 400’s back in the day.”
Q3: What’s the best part of competing on the roads?
“Best part of real road racing is feeling the exhilaration of being at one out on track, with your bike navigating twists and turns and the sensation it provides of freedom and thrills.
Must mention as well of course the great friends and family of the racing community.”
Q4: TT, North West 200 or Ulster Grand Prix?
“TT the best by far. So many different types of aspects from narrow roads lined with trees, houses, hedges to the open space of the mountain coupled with the different road surfaces, makes a great challenge to rider, machine and team.”
Q5: Most Respected Rival?
“I have the up most respect for every rider out there competing.”
Q6: Best roads moment thus far?
“Best roads moment was achieving a 6th place finish in the Lightweight 400 race, during my first TT campaign in 2004.”
Q7: Is their one place or country in the world, where you would like to see a roads meeting held?
“It would be great to see roads event across all countries!”
Q8: Who’s your road racing hero?
“Barry Sheene, when I was a kid, everyone wanted to be him.”
Q9: Supersport or Superbike?
“A no expense spared Superbike.”
Q10: Pole position or fastest lap?
“Fastest lap over pole. I’ve had a lap record stand for 4 years, pole position only lasts for one day.”
