Ten Questions Challenge – Daniel Mettam

Supersport B race winner at Cookstown, consistently in contention for victories at Paeroa and the Cemetery Circuit, talented next gen New Zealand road racer Daniel Mettam, is the next rider to take part in Road Racing News, ten questions challenge.

Part this year of the well respected McKinstry Racing set up, his answers to the popular series of questions, are as follows:

Q1: Favourite National Roads Meeting?

“My favourite road meeting would have to be Paeroa street race, ran every February, as it is only a hour from where I live so a home race for me.”

Q2: Favourite Racing Bike?

“The latest 2018 GSXR 1000 Suzuki, which I just finished my season on in New Zealand, it is such a good bike just out of the box, and is ready to go racing with a few minor modifications.”

Q3: What’s the best part of competing on the roads?

“The best part of competing on the roads for me is when you turn up there isn’t much practice, so if it is a track you like and feel comfortable on then you already have a head start, on your competition.”

Q4: TT, North West 200 or Ulster Grand Prix?

“At the moment I would say the Ulster GP, as I am living on the circuit here in Northern Ireland and have done a lot of laps in the car. But my opinion could change after the season when I have done all these events.”

Q5: Most Respected Rival?

“Most respected rival would probably be Shane Richardson in New Zealand, some of the races and battles we had in New Zealand on the 600cc Supersport bikes, were insane and he’s also a good mate.”

Q6: Best roads moment thus far?

“My best roads moment would be winning the Superbike race this year in February at Paeroa, as all my family and sponsors were there, it’s a race I’ve wanted to win since I first went there to watch when I was 5 years old.”

Q7: Is their one place or country in the world, where you would like to see a roads meeting held?

“If there was one place I’d like a road meeting to be held at, that would be in my home town in Auckland (New Zealand), as there is some awesome country roads that are so fast and nice to ride on.”

Q8: Who’s your road racing hero?

“Hero would be Bruce Anstey, as he is a fellow kiwi who has had huge success in road racing.”

Q9: Supersport or Superbike?

“Superbike for sure.”

Q10: Pole position or fastest lap?

“Pole position, as usually it gives you a point for the championship you are competing in.”
