2023 NG (North Gloucester) Road Racing affiliated competition commenced over the past weekend, with a diverse field of racers circulating around the Kent based Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
Roads-scene members a plenty were in action including Super Twins race 1 victor Paul ‘Potchy’ Williams, Phoenix Open class pole sitter Jim Hind, 250 GP ACU National Championship rostrum finisher Chris Moore.
GP Originals front runners Gary Vines, Phil ‘Steady’ Stead, Steve Moody, Team Kibosh’s Richard Wilson.
Will Loder, Emmett Burke, Shaun Wynne, Michael Rees and fellow Manx GP winner, Tom Weeden.
Astride his own teams R6 Yamaha, which he plans to race at the TT, Weeden enjoyed an overall highly prominent meeting.
Post qualifying, he would place second in the opening Open 600/Clubman 600 combined races.
A non-finish would follow from the final Supersport encounter, following a warm-up lap incident at Clearways.
Speaking via Facebook about the NG season opener, Weeden stated:
“Finished P2 in a very wet first race on the 600 – 13 seconds in front of the rider behind.
Had a naughty little moment at Surtees early on and decided best to bring her home in 2nd rather than push on.
Unfortunately, I’m a massive sausage and went the wrong way on suspension for the drying track plus just too keen on cold tyres on a greasy wet and oily track.
Had a little lie down in the second race, on the warm up lap out of Clearways! Rear slipped out and gripped again and went for a little flying lesson.
Bike absolutely fine other than a broken foot-peg. I am also absolutely fine and treating this as a learning lesson.
Shout out to Held Rider Equipment, LS2 Helmets UK and Knox back protectors for keeping me safe.”
