Before we delve into Saturday, Sunday’s NEMCRC (North East Motorcycle Racing Club) Croft action, a quick bit of trivia.
The outright lap record holder at Croft, believe it or not is Monaco Grand Prix winner, runner-up in the last two Formula One World Championships, Mexican sporting hero Sergio Perez.
Back to bikes and focus when reflecting on the past weekend’s activities, revolves 100 percent on 2023 Bob Smith Spring Cup winner, Seventy Four Racing by Genertech’s Joey Thompson.
Six wins from six race starts, King of Croft, Ken Redfern trophy triumphs, the meet couldn’t have gone any better for Joey ‘Yorkshire’.
Dom ‘The Bomb’ Herbertson took 500 twins victories times three whilst former suitors Cowton Racing, enjoyed a successful 2024 season start with new team rider, Gareth Arnold, sharing Super Twins race honours (2 race wins each) with Sam Johnson.
Former Barry Sheene Trophy winner at Scarborough Dave Bell, took a pair of Pre-Injection class wins whilst fellow Oliver’s Mount luminaries Lee Crawford/Scott Hardie, commanded the F2 FSRA (Formula Sidecar Racing Association) Sidecar encounters.
To put into context, Crawford/Hardie’s wins (winning margins Race 1 – 29.435 seconds, Race 2 – 6.691 seconds) the opposition staring them down oozed talent, quality, excellence.
This included FHO Racing’s Pete Founds/Jevan Walmsley (Race 2 runner-up), the Ramsdens Steve & Matty, Daryl Gibson/Tom Christie.
Carl Fenwick/Phil Knapton, Wayne Lockey/Ben Binns, Conrad Harrison/Ashley Moore, current World Champions Todd Ellis/Emmanuelle Clement, I could expand, expand even more.
