Not long post a pesky passing shower, weather conditions took a turn for the better as the showpiece race of the Oliver’s Mount Spring Cup, the Bob Smith Spring Cup took centre stage.
Already before the race, drama was a foot with pre-race favourite for many, Ashcourt Racing’s Lee Johnston a confirmed non-starter.
With Johnston out of proceedings, Silicone Engineering Racing’s Dean Harrison looked now heavy favourite to retain one of Oliver’s Mount Racing’s blue riband races.
This proved the case and some but not before Harrison had to hold off the attentions of an extremely determined Davey Todd.
New Wilson Craig Racing signing Todd kept pace with 2019 Senior TT winner Harrison during opening race laps before the now 99 times a race winner at Scarborough found an extra gear.
3.5 seconds clear by lap five, Harrison would go onto take race honours by 4.771 seconds over 2018 IRRC Superbike Champion Todd.
DC Racing’s Mike Norbury took a fighting third whilst position no.4 went to Dafabet Racing’s improving Rob Hodson.
Twice Ultra Lightweight Manx GP winner Darryl Tweed scored a fine fifth place finish as York’s Joe Thompson rounded out the first six finishers.
Others to complete the eight lap race were Tom Weeden (7th), sole yesteryear Classic Superbike exponent Dave Bell (8th), Steven Haddow (9th).
Daniel Forbes (10th), Tom Robinson (11th), Kingston Upon Hull’s Callum Ward (12th), Obsession Engineering backed Martin Morris (13th) and the Isle of Wight’s Ryan Whitehall (14th).
