Manx Grand Prix: Friday Evening Practice Report

With blue skies, bright sunny weather finally venturing upon the Mountain Course, it was no surprise that tonight’s Manx GP practice session proved an immensely productive one for ten’s of competitors.

Tommy club member Dean Osborne respectively set the Junior/Senior pace, becoming the first rider this week to top the 117, 118 mph marks, achieving a quickest lap speed of 118.466 mph.

Behind Osborne, the closely matched trio of Andy Farrell (116.460), James Chawke (116.320), Steven Procter (116.213) all looked in good form, as did Ultra Lightweight practice week leader Darryl Tweed (115.766).

Leading 750 mounted racer was experienced Irishman Damian Horan (116.325), who finished overall third fastest within the Senior class time sheets.

Heading the Ultra Lightweight time sheets tonight were Melton Mowbray’s Dan Ingham (102.016), Irish roads stalwart Nigel Moore (99.318) and seasoned Manx GP exponent Jason Lamb (99.286).

Without a doubt the most keenly contested battle for practice supremacy this evening, arose within the Lightweight class with David Lumsden, Spain’s Victor Lopez Santos, Andy Farrell and S1-R Paton mounted James Chawke all closely matched.

In the end it was Skerries Farrell courtesy of a nigh on lap speed of 111.8 mph, who finished quickest by just over three seconds in front of Martimotos backed Lopez Santos (111.582).

Reflecting on Newcomers practice, class A pace was again set by Michael Browne (110.704), closely followed on the time sheets by fellow countryman Thomas Maxwell (110.370).

Scotsman Steven Haddow (110.238) also topped the 110 mph mark, whilst Nathan Harrison (108.249) brother of TT Races competitor Glenn Harrison additionally impressed.

Newcomers B practice honours went the way of Cookstown Junior Support victor Barry Sheehan, lapping at a very creditable 102.912 mph.

Second, third, fourth quickest respectively Daniel Fernandez (101.408), Michael Rees (101.264), James Hind all dipping over the 101 mph mark, like class leader Sheehan all already look to have a deft touch on the world famous roads of the much loved, fabled and illustrious Mountain Course.
