KDM Hire Cookstown 100: Qualifying Round Up

Despite the best efforts of certain individuals, the weather, Covid-19 nothing could stop the return today of Irish Road Racing at Cookstown been an outstanding success.

Aside from Derek Sheils securing Open race pole position, here’s a run down of who also enjoyed qualifying victories within their respective classes:

Fifth on the Open race qualifying times sheet, McAdoo Kawasaki’s Adam McLean surged to feature Supersport race pole position.

McLean’s time of 1 minute 26.253 seconds proved more than enough to hold off the attentions of 125/Moto 3 pole sitter Paul Jordan, who finished 1.59 seconds in arrears.

Alongside clinching Supersport pole, National Superstock 600 Championship exponent McLean was also in fine form on 650cc machinery, edging new McAdoo Kawasaki team mate Darryl Tweed for qualifying spoils by just over 0.3 of a second.

Twice Manx GP winner Tweed went onto just lose out on combined Lightweight 250/400 pole position, edged to the top sport in qualifying by Neil Kernohan. The gap between Kernohan and Tweed on the time screens stood at just 0.097 of a second!

Junior Classic 250/350 qualifying honours went respectively to Orritor Circuit debutant, the Isle of Wight’s Ryan Whitehall and esteemed yesteryear racer John Leigh Pemberton.

Irish roads legend Barry Davidson set the Senior 500 Classics pace whilst Senior 1000 Classic timed practice honours went the way of long Classics racing contemporary Richard Ford.

Support classes wise, Vinny Brennan headed the Senior Support brigade whilst Junior Support qualifying victory was acquired by Michael Gillan.
