Pure road racing 2023 style, opened in excellent fashion at the Honda Invercargill Street Races, with no less than 17 racers claiming race victories.
Premier class wise, the F1 Superbike races saw New Zealand roads icon Tony Rees reign supreme.
Maintaining the stellar form that yielded recent success at Teretonga, the Bluff Hill Climb, the seven times Cemetery Circuit Races feature race winner, kept at bay challenges from the likes of Dan McKenzie, respective Bears F1 race 1, F3 race 1 victors Heath Botica and Jonny Lewis.
Luca Durning proved the man to beat in the F2 Supersport class, taking like Rees successive class wins.
Others to accomplish this feat were the following:
Bill Swallow (Classic Pre 63 with Girder Forks), Martyn Barlow (Bears Junior), Vince Burrell (Post Classic Pre 72 Junior & Senior).
Andrew Rudd (Super Motard), Terry Galway (Classic Pre 63 501cc +/Post Classic Pre 82 Junior), Chris McMeeken (Post Classic Pre 82 Open), Graham McNabb (Post Classic Pre 89 Junior).
Racers not showcased yet who also claimed victories following action around the tight, technical, short Invercargill roads course were John Oliver (Bears F1 Open Race 2), Jesse Stroud (Formula 3 Race 2), Graham Peters (Classic Pre 63 Junior Race 1).
Julian Bragg (Post Classic Pre 95 Race 2), Damian Perriton (Post Classic Pre 89 Open Race 1), Jordan Burley (Post Classic Pre 89 Open Race 2).
Overall, a top, top day’s racing at Invercargill which concluded the latest Burt Munro Challenge series, that honours and some the legacy of one of New Zealand’s greatest ever sportsman.
