A small amount of time before 2024 Steve Henshaw Gold Cup practice sessions began, Road Racing News had a chinwag for a few minutes with Don Gilbert.
Established within Oliver’s Mount’s most improved riders list, Gilbert in June added his name to the Barry Sheene Trophy winners list.
Succinctly discussing this, the Horsham rider stated:
“I’m still living off that at-the moment, to be honest with you! Because otherwise I’d pack it all in and take up golf or something if it wasn’t for that!
Glad I’m back here, I feel like I belong here a bit more than anywhere else, this is home to me.”
Eleventh, eighth, sixth respectively from the only Supersport (A), Classic Superbike races to take place from the past weekend’s mist, fog interrupted Gold Cup, Gilbert admitted that last month’s Manx Grand Prix, also largely weather impacted was quite disappointing with a lack of track time, bike problems, slowing down his progress.
Already looking at what’s possible in 2025, he disclosed that another Northwest 200 venture is in the planning.
“Will definitely, do the Northwest 200, done that the last couple of years and then not too sure, would like to go to Armoy.
Got a few friends trying to twist my arm to go to Armoy, but it’s just it’s quite a big ordeal getting over there, because I’m down the south of England so it’s a lot of travelling, cost a lot of money and all the rest of it, so not too sure yet but it is, on-the cards.”
