Setting a new outright lap record, Derek Sheils reigned supreme in the showpiece event of the 2017 Faugheen 50 Road Races, dominating the Grand Final.
It’s the Cookstown BE Racing riders second feature race success at Faugheen in three years, plus it’s his eighth big bike national roads victory of the season.
Runner up Derek McGee, ended a solid and consistent meeting with another trip to the rostrum, as Martin Jones Racing’s Michael Sweeney rounded out the podium finishers.
Supersport winner Paul Jordan was again in spectacular form on his way to finishing fourth, whilst a cross generation battle for fifth, saw roads stalwart Davy Morgan hold off the improving Graham Kennedy.
Raymond Casey, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Darryl Tweed, Damian Horan concluded the top ten, at the end of an eight lap race which saw Derek Sheils firmly maintain his dominance aboard 1000cc machinery, within the Irish national roads scene.
A non starter for next weekend’s Armoy Road Races, it’s going to be interesting to see who will set the big bike pace in his absence, at the race of legends.
