Just before 12:00 PM, the Orritor circuit was serenaded by the sound of sizzling Supersport steeds with the Mid-Ulster Council (A) race commencing.
Pole-sitter Michael Dunlop, who slipped off in last evening’s invitational Supersport race, was the highest profile non-starter.
Gaining the hole-shot in striking fashion was Darryl Tweed aboard the M&D Racing Honda.
At lap one’s end, all that separated new race leader Dominic Herbertson, Tweed, Michael Sweeney was 0.246 of a second.
Towards the end of lap two, Herbertson, Sweeney had broken away from Tweed, who dropped 2.253 behind the first, second place holders.
Herbertson, Sweeney remained close together through laps three, four, five.
On lap six, EM Building backed Sweeney took the P1 initiative, could he maintain this to the race end, wrap up a tumultuous Supersport race double?
The answer was no, thanks to a gritty, relentless late race push from Herbertson, securing his first victory for new suitors, BE (Burrows Engineering)/RK (Richardson Kelly) Racing.
Early race leader Tweed took third behind Herbertson and Sweeney whilst fourth on aggregate timing was bagged by Jacque Foley.
Michael Gahan, Neil Kernohan, Dean Lacey, Martin Morris respectively placed fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth.
Richard Charlton took ninth with Sam Johnson finalising the first ten finishers.
Remaining race finishers were Isle of Wight ace Ryan Whitehall, Liam Chawke, Paul Cranston, and Mark Johnson.
