Occurring following a dramatic Super Twins B race victory for Mark Johnson, the sun glistened Supersport (A) Invitation race illustrated splendidly the fine art of middleweight class competition around the Cookstown Orritor circuit.
The re-started race, four laps long, a relative sprint for competitors did not feature Michael Dunlop, Bob Smith Spring Cup winner Michael Browne.
Their absence opened the door for several hungry racers to fight, corner to corner, lap on lap for class spoils.
Incredibly, as lap one concluded the race leader was on aggregate timing, 76 plate carrier Jacque Foley.
By lap two’s end, Foley still led but by a reduced margin of 0.702 of a second over Dominic Herbertson.
As the fourth, final lap dawned positions out front had swapped around and some with Michael Sweeney now first, just ahead of Herbertson, Ballymoney’s Darryl Tweed with Foley dropping back to fourth.
At the chequered flag (post lap four’s end), it was Sweeney getting the race winning verdict over BE/RK Racing’s Herbertson by only 0.042 of a second!
Tweed placed third, Foley fourth, Sam Johnson attained fifth.
Top newcomer Kevin Keyes was a fine sixth as Richard Charlton, Michael Gahan, Gareth Arnold, Martin Morris swept up placings seventh through to tenth.
