Irish road racing returns this week with the eagerly awaited 100th Anniversary KDM Hire Cookstown 100. Road Racing News pre-event previews begin with a focus on the Open, Supersport, Grand Final races: Whilst the two Derek’s Sheils and McGee may be absent, the entry for the 600cc, 1000cc encounters at Cookstown is still filled with top draw road racing excellence. Perennial Orritor Circuit front runners BE Racing, supported again by Richardson Kelly Racing, challenge is led by rising talent Michael Browne. Open race winner last year, Browne set to pilot YZF R6 Yamaha, GSX-R 1000 Suzuki machinery, will no question feature strongly in the battles for Supersport, Superbike success. Same applies to current Supersport lap record holder, McAdoo Kawasaki’s Adam McLean. Keen to add a maiden 1000cc roads triumph to his growingly impressive racing resume, he’s certain to be in the mix for victory spoils. Another anticipated front runner is Martin Jones Racing backed Michael Sweeney. 2019 Duke Road Race Rankings Champion, Sweeney had it’s fair to say an eventful Cookstown tenure in 2021. Determined to kick start the new season in ultra-productive fashion, he’s likely to head the BMW charge in the 1000cc races whilst his 600cc steed is the EM Building supported R6 Yamaha. Others more than capable of securing rostrum placings include reigning Grand Final race winner Forest Dunn, Ballymoney’s Darryl Tweed, Cowton Racing’s Dominic Herbertson and new PreZ Racing signing, British Supersport points finisher yesterday Paul Jordan. Further depth to the entry is provided by esteemed competitors which include 2018 Junior Manx GP winner James Chawke, Graham Kennedy, Thomas Maxwell, Davy Morgan (DM71 Racing), Michal ‘Indi’ Dokoupil. Sam Johnson, Neil Kernohan, Richard Charlton, Stephen Degnan, Anthony Redmond and Orritor Circuit returnee Mark Parrett. Notable Orritor circuit newcomers entered include WH Racing’s Julian Trummer, Chris Green (CG Creations Racing), Obsession Engineering backed Martin Morris and Oliver’s Mount Scarborough race victor Toby Shann. Not long now till we will know who claims this year’s Cookstown Supersport, Open, Grand Final crowns, close, intriguing action is inevitable!
