Classic TT: Low Cloud, Mist Gives Way To Thrilling Friday Afternoon Practice Action

After a strong bout of mist, low cloud on the Mountain section of the Mountain Course lifted, Friday’s Classic TT practice action got underway at 2:10 PM, with the Junior/Senior class exponents first down Glencrutchery Road.

Looking in formidable form aboard the reserve Team Winfield Paton, John McGuinness powered to the top of this afternoon’s Senior class times sheet, registering an impressive best lap speed of 109.59 mph.

Nearest challenger to McGuinness this afternoon was Ted Woof/Craven Classic Racing backed, Norton mounted Jamie Coward (107.16 mph), who through the Sulby speed trap was nearly 6 mph down on his fellow Englishman.

Behind McGuinness, Coward, third, fourth fastest respectively Michael Rutter (105.51 mph) and Maria Costello MBE (105.09 mph) also showed accomplished form as did 2015 Lightweight Manx GP winner Mark Purslow (104.61 mph).

Reigning class champion Dominic Herbertson (100.74 mph) headed seven times TT winner Rutter (99.66), Davies Motorsport team mate Lee Johnston (99.12 mph) in the Junior class fraternity.

Whilst the pace not surprisingly within the yesteryear Superbike class, was set by Silicone Engineering Racing’s Dean Harrison, who’s ‘Flying Lap’ lap speed of 124.56 mph, is the fastest lap speed so far of this year’s Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling extravaganza.

Leading pursuers this afternoon to the Dunlop Senior TT winner were Greenall Racing’s Horst Saiger (121.64 mph) who carries the coveted number 1 plate and Milenco by Padgetts YZR 500 Yamaha mounted Conor Cummins (120.56 mph).

Continuing his remarkable return to competitive roads action, Bruce Anstey remained at the helm of the Lightweight field, banking a new personal best lap speed from this week’s competitive action of 116.99 mph.

Anstey’s lap speed nearing the 117 mph lap mark, placed him just over 11 seconds clear of Superbike class pace setter, lead Laylaw Racing squad member Harrison (115.87 mph).
