Dash for victory, Mountain Course racing sprint were just some of the ways to describe this afternoon’s one-lap Historic Junior race.
After a parade lap involving 31 times TT winners combined Dave Molyneux and Tom Birchall, John McGuinness MBE (Steadplan Racing – Honda) lucking for better luck than attained in the prior Historic Senior race, received the tap on the shoulder from Mark Pendlebury at 2:00 PM.
Glen Helen lap one would see Ken Rutter Racing’s Michael Evans go P1 by 7.517 seconds.
Paul Jordan held second with Dean Harrison, Jamie Coward, Joe Yeardsley, Dan Sayle third to sixth.
By Ballaugh Bridge, Davies Motorsport’s Jordan had incredibly taken the race lead from Evans who soon went onto retire.
Barry Furber was confirmed to have crashed out of race proceedings at Ballacraine, the Bishop Castle rider was reported as emerging unscathed.
At Ramsey Hairpin Jordan’s race lead increased to 3.122 over new second place holder Harrison (Craven Classic Racing/Ted Woof – Honda).
9.799 further back was 2019 race winner, Harrison’s team-mate Coward.
8.494 clear at the Bungalow, it did seem likely that Armoy ‘Man of The Meeting’ Jordan would unlock a first Mountain Course race win.
Harrison (103.179) was first across the start-finish line, but race laurels went to Magherafelt’s Jordan (103.89) by 9.012 seconds.
Coward (101.502) sealed third, Sayle accrued fourth, Yeardsley gained fifth.
Historic Senior runner-up McLean took sixth with the rest of the leaderboard claimed by Davey Todd (P7), Harley Rushton (P8), European Hill Climbing goliath Maurizio Bottalico (P9) and Alan Oversby (P10).
Ulster Road Race Superbike Champion Michael Sweeney placed eleventh, Greeves Oulton jockey Will Loder finished top non-Honda rider in twelfth.
McGuinness MBE (P13), Paul Cassidy (P14), Michael ‘Jack’ Russell (P15) rounded out the top fifteen.
Finishers sixteenth to thirtieth were:
Leading newcomer Jeffrey Vermuelen (P16), Maria Costello MBE (P17), Chris Moore (P18), Rhys Hardisty (P19), Mark Johnson (P20).
Jonathan Perry (P21), Sam Johnson (P22), Russell Roebury (P23), James Chawke (P24), Shelley Pike (P25).
Andrew Green (P26), Robert Lowe (P27), Darran Creer (P28), Justin Roebury (P29) and Robert Stephen Walsh (P30).
Post Race Reaction:
Paul Jordan
“It’s obviously a dream come true to get a win around the Mountain Course, to get standing in the box here, unfortunately didn’t get to do it at the TT so it’s nice to get in there and try and salvage a bit of it from what I didn’t have at the TT.”
“It’s amazing, just to win a race here, finish this week off on a high.”
