Bikernieki Latvia’s Imatranajo

Bikernieki Latvia’s Imatranajo

After watching various on-board videos, reading the circuit’s history, I came to the conclusion that the Riga based Bikernieki circuit is Latvia’s equivalent to Imatranajo in Finland and the Macau Grand Prix.

Heavily tree lined, fast, flowing, it’s kind of a hybrid between a road, street and purpose built circuit.

Clearly there’s no room for error, pinpoint perfect race lines are needed to master the over 2.2 miles long course.

Alongside hosting two wheel events, the course which first joined race calendars in 1962 also notably hosts rounds of the European and World Rallycross Championships.

Recently a national Championship meeting at Bikernieki showcased the pace of multiple local racing stars plus event debutant Christopher Eder.

Eder known to road racing fans for his exploits at the Ulster Grand Prix and at Czech roads circuits, went onto clinch yesterday 125 race honours.

Candidly summing up yesterday’s achievement via Facebook, the racer who regularly pilots KTM machinery stated:

“Yeeees win the 125cc race and 3rd Overall. Many thanks to the very friendly welcome to everybody in Riga, awesome place in all.”
