Barry Sheene Classic Preview – Yesteryear Two/Four Stroke/Lightweight Races

Road Racing News Barry Sheene Classic preview series, finalises today with a feature on the intertwined JMS Motor Services Ltd classic two stroke/four stroke, modern Lightweight races.

Overall, despite clashing with the Aberdare Park Road Races, the latest BSB round at Brands Hatch, entry numbers stand at a very respectable twenty-one.

In terms of yesteryear two and four stroke exponents, notable entrants include to name but a few:

Bob Smith Spring Cup winner Joey ‘Yorkshire’ Thompson, Tony Flinton, John Hannaford, Oliver’s Mount newcomer, Chris Meyer of Germany.

High-profile Scarborough returnee, Pre-TT Classic wins record holder Mike Hose (Ripley Land Racing), Mad Bros Racing’s Gary McCoy.

VRS Racing’s Sam Johnson and 2022 Classic Superbike Manx GP winner, ‘130 Mph’ TT club member Rob Hodson.

Looking towards the modern lightweight races, there is a mix of CB 500, Supersport 400, 450, Supersport 300 mounted racers.

In terms of CB 500 pilots, No Limits Racing Championship leader Ricky Martin, Liam McPherson should feature prominently.

Remaining CB 500 runners are SRS Racing’s Stephen Sewell 411 plate holder Daniel Blades and Wolverhampton’s Richard Hughes.

Sole respective Supersport 400/300 jockeys are Scottish ace Kelly Carruthers and Nik Sweet.

There is also a Tigcraft presence via William Pickering, who went well at early July’s Cock O’The North.

So that’s it, the conclusion of pre, Barry Sheene Classic event insights, hopefully they have all been a good read!

To those, questioning the quality of the fields per class, I state this all road-racers whether record breaking, history making, privateers, racing on a shoestring budget, cannot but not be in my opinion considered anything but super heroes.

Every racer who competes at Scarborough, deserves this accolade, pure road racing unlike any other form of motorsport worldwide, requires a versatile, diverse, unique skillset, an incredible amount of bravery.

Ordinary, unassuming people putting on super hero cloaks as they will do this weekend.
