Wanganui Road Races – Preview

The 2014 Wanganui road races has attracted an excellent entry list which includes Guy Martin competing for the third time at the popular road race in New Zealand.

Reigning Southern 100 solo championship and Dundrod 150 superbike race winner Guy is competing on Suzuki New Zealand superbike as he targets his first win around Wanganui. Plus its set to mark his final road race outing on a Suzuki as he competes on BMW’s in 2015 for Tyco BMW.

Guy is also entered in classic races on a Manx Norton whilst seasoned road racer Maria Costello MBE is looking forward to returning to Wanganui competing on a KTM in bears class.

North West 200 superstock lap record holder Horst Saiger is tipped by many to be pushing for standout results in superbike races. Horst who will be competing on Red Devils racing ZX10 Kawasaki has impressed many this year with series of top class results.

Which includes personal best TT finish of 11th position in superstock race, fifth place finish in opening superstock race at North West 200 and most recently sixth place in the Macau Grand Prix.

Eighth place finisher in 2004 newcomers A Manx Grand Prix Hayden Fitzgerald is GSX-R 1000 Suzuki mounted for superbike races as is Sloan Frost.

Sloan has proved hugely competitive around Wanganui over the years and there’s no doubt that he is set to be in contention for race wins.

Dennis Charlett is regarded as one of New Zealand’s leading road racers and the hugely experienced rider is aiming for victory in feature Robert Holden memorial race.

The supersport 600 races sees a hugely competitive entry with multiple riders capable of battling for race victories. Billy Redmayne 2014 newcomers A Manx Grand Prix winner makes his Wanganui road races debut this year competing on a GSX-R 600 Suzuki.

Billy who lapped on his Manx Grand Prix debut at over 119.1 mph is predicted to have a very bright future in pure road racing, his entry into the supersport races around Wanganui is another exciting element to what is set to be a thrilling days racing on 26th of December.

Hayden Fitzgerald, Rennie Scaysbrook, Adam Chambers and Toby Summers are all in contention to be pushing for standout results in the as always hugely competitive supersport 600 races.

Jayden Carrick, Tony Rees, Phil Lovett, Sophie Lovett, Rhys Holmes and Scott Moir could all spring a surprise or two as could Grant Dalton competing in the F3 class on a ER6 Kawasaki.

Grant made his debut on the mountain course this year competing in the classic TT races and thoroughly enjoyed competing on the most famous road racing circuit in the world.

Over the years we’ve seen many a famous name clinch victory in feature race around Wanganui they include Dave Hiscock, Pat Hennen and the late but great Robert Holden. An exciting race is in prospect in five days time whilst action across all races is set to see close, exciting and pulsating action around the streets of Wanganui.
