Walderstown: Qualifying Analysis – The Lap Times, The Competition, The Super Heroes Feats Chronicled

Day 1 of competition at the latest instalment of the hugely popular Walderstown Road Races, saw Irish roads royalty, next gen stars, seasoned campaigners produce an array of tumultuous performances.

Alongside topping the Open/Grand Final qualifying times sheet, 2018 Duke Road Race Rankings champion Derek McGee powered overall to a hat trick of four stroke class pole positions.

Quickest by in excess of half a second in both the Supersport, Super Twin qualifying sessions, the ultra determined Mullingar racer has made a quite remarkable racing return, and there’s no doubt that multiple race wins could be on the horizon tomorrow for the 2018 Bennetts Lightweight TT runner up.

Nearest pursuer to McGee in Supersport qualifying was Derek Sheils, whilst leading challenger in Super Twins timed qualifying was Paton mounted James Chawke.

David Howard topped the Lightweight 400 times sheet as 2nd, 3rd, 4th quickest Darryl Anderson, Stephen Morrison and Brian Loughlin all showed a deft touch on 400 machinery.

Junior Support qualifying honours went to Vinny Brennan, who went onto claim victory in today’s Junior Support non championship race.

The battle for Senior Support pole position was won by the in form Darren Keys, whilst Junior 350, Senior 500 Classics qualifying spoils were acquired by renowned yesteryear racing exponent, Ed Manly.

Remaining racers to secure pole positions from a safe, enterprising, compelling day of roads action at Walderstown were Richard Ford (Senior 1000 Classics) and Brian Mateer (Junior 250 Classics).
