Setting off 1 hour behind schedule at 12:45 PM, due to believe it or not tree issues! the second three-lap Royal London 360 Superstock encounter, virtually guaranteed more exhilarating TT action.
Tuesday’s race winner Peter Hickman, 25 times TT victor Michael Dunlop, DAO Racing’s Dean Harrison, were considered the top contenders for class spoils.
Mountain course newbies racing were last year’s Macau Grand Prix winner Erno Kostamo and fastest newcomer to date of TT 2023, Ryan Cringle.
Lap 1:
Attaining a much more rapid start to Glen Helen, Peter Hickman surged into the race lead, opening up a slender 0.159 advantage over Michael Dunlop.
Triple TT winner Dean Harrison held third but was 2.675 behind Dunlop.
Dunlop extended the gap to Harrison at Ballaugh Bridge but was now 1.518 in arrears to FHO Racing’s Hickman.
WH Racing’s Julian Trummer was the first confirmed race retirement, stopping at Ballacraine.
Sixth in Wednesday’s Supersport encounter, Jim Hind retired at Sulby Bridge.
At Ramsey Hairpin Dunlop narrowed Hickman’s P1 helm to just 0.810 of a second.
As pit stops loomed, Hickman led Dunlop by only 1.824 seconds.
Harrison third, was almost 12 seconds behind Dunlop.
Conor Cummins held an impressive fourth with Jamie Coward, top Yamaha runner James Hillier completing the top six.
Lap 2:
Post the scheduled pit stops, Hickman added a tiny chunk to his race-lead, moving by Glen Helen, 2.392 clear of prospective history maker Dunlop.
3.365 ahead at Ballaugh Bridge, outright lap record holder Hickman was steadily beginning to gain a potent grip on race proceedings.
Remaining timing sectors across lap 2 saw Hickman and Dunlop keep in close proximity.
With the third and final lap beckoning, 5.149 separated the TT giants.
Harrison still third, was 23 seconds further back whilst Ramsey’s Cummins, despite still not feeling 100 percent fitness wise, kept fourth.
Milenco by Padgetts team-mate Davey Todd, suffering from a sickness bug, called time on his race at the pit-lane.
Lap 3:
Breaking the outright Grandstand-Glen Helen sector record, Hickman looked good for an outright lap record, on Superstock 1000 machinery!
Race honours were still to be wrapped up though, Dunlop astride his own squads Honda, wasn’t giving up.
At Ramsey Hairpin, Hickman appeared to break the Dunlop challenge, acquiring a new advantage of 8.664 seconds.
By the Bungalow, Dunlop was first on the road but first, homing in on TT win no.11 was an absolutely flying Hickman.
Just moments after Dunlop set a new Superstock lap record of 134.730 mph, Hickman bested this, setting get ready for this a brand new, outright lap record of 136.358 mph – 16 minutes 36.115 seconds.
This enabled Hickman now alongside Phillip McCallen and Steve Hislop on 11 TT triumphs, to finish 17.184 in front of Dunlop.
40.836 seconds behind, Harrison steadfastly again topped the Kawasaki challenge.
Cummins took a gritty fourth with Monster Energy by FHO Racing’s Josh Brookes, KTS Racing Powered by Steadplan’s Coward concluding the first six finishers.
Hillier, John McGuinness MBE, Dominic Herbertson, Michael Rutter wrapped up the leader-board top ten.
