Fully established as one of his nations’ top international road racers, Adam McLean’s stock within the real road racing scene, continues to increase.
Just days before TT 2025, the Tobermore rider gave Monster Energy Supersport races suitors Performance Racing Achterhoek, home IRRC Hengelo-Varsselring round victory joy, winning the second Supersport race.
Second in both Superbike races (top full time IRRC competitor x2), the 2024 IRRC Supersport Championship runner-up stated about the successful weekend in the Netherlands.
“It was a good start to the season at our teams’ local race to, so nice for them, nice for us to have a good run.”
For McLean, IRRC action, falls nicely in the middle of international, national events across the UK and Isle of Man.
“I think it falls somewhere between international road races like the Northwest and the TT and then obviously the next stuff down here in the UK, is your national races, Cookstown, Armoy, Scarborough, Tandragee, falls nicely in the middle.
It’s nice to do something different, I think the levels a bit more elevated as well but obviously nothing compares to the likes of the TT and stuff like that but falls nicely in the middle.”
Before been on IRRC racing duty, McLean enjoyed a highly proficient Briggs Equipment Northwest 200, actively challenging, battling Richard Cooper for Super Twin spoils, on the same steed, the Flitwick Motorcycles/SMV Yamaha, that he’s aboard this week, next week.
Summing up 2025 Triangle course explorations, the Ulster Grand Prix race winner, Manx Grand Prix rostrum finisher said:
“Disappointed to have a crash (Super Twins Race 2) but when I got home and thought about it, there was a lot more to be positive about and I think our pace was really good in the first race and you know, I think sometimes you have to remember to beat Richard Cooper around the Northwest, you might as well be doing it at Brands Hatch or Oulton Park.
I think when you look at this level at BSB, you can see how big a task that is. Richard’s been riding that bike (KMR Kawasaki), been dominant on it for a few years, so to take it to him, it was good.”
He added about his Super Twin apparatus:
“The bike by Steve Linsdell, really good bike, well put together, so that’s half the battle with the Super Twins is a good bike.”
In terms of TT 2025 expectations, McLean candidly stated:
“My attitude to the TT is generally treat it like a Sunday ride and what will be, will be. It’s one of those places; you can’t force it.
Whenever you start putting pressure on yourself for results, it’s not as enjoyable so we enjoy some good weather if we get it, enjoy riding the bikes, see where we end up.”
