Reduced to only two laps, the re-scheduled second 3wheeling.media Sidecar of TT 2024, commenced at 10:30 AM.
Back racing today, after been non-starters for the three-wheeling opener on Saturday, Ben Birchall/Kevin Rousseau were the first crew to get the tap on the shoulder.
Runaway opening race victors, Kel Properties.com backed Crowe brothers Ryan & Callum powered into P1 at Glen Helen, moving close to five seconds ahead of Birchall/Rousseau.
Pete Founds/Jevan Walmsley were 2.716 seconds further adrift with rapid newcomers Todd Ellis/Emmanuelle Clement, Lewis Blackstock/Patrick Rosney, Alan Founds/Rhys Gibbons concluding the top six.
Oliver’s Mount ‘King Pins’ Lee Crawford/Scott Hardie retired at Crosby pub whilst FHO Racing’s Founds/Walmsley failed to make Ballaugh Bridge, stopping at Kirk Michael.
At Ramsey Hairpin, the Crowes led Birchall/Rousseau by 11.3 seconds.
Founds/Gibbons grabbed P3 from Ellis/Clement whilst Founds/Walmsley’s demise enabled Dave Molyneux/Jake Roberts to attain sixth.
As the conclusion of lap one beckoned, the race was unfortunately stopped following an incident involving Ellis/Clement at Waterworks. Both were reported as ok.
Race Re-Start – Lap One:
Amidst a backdrop of wet weather beckoning, Thursday race week Sidecar racing re-vaulted, minus Pete Founds/Jevan Walmsley (blown engine), Todd Ellis/Emmanuelle Clement (above illustrated incident) into fruition at 2:15 PM.
Just like in the previous race start, the Crowes made a stirring start, opening an almost five second lead on the run to Glen Helen. Michael Russell/Vicky Cooke were early retirees.
Founds/Gibbons fourth at Ballaugh Bridge one tenth of a second shy of Blackstock/Rosney, were black flagged.
As lap one proceedings progressed, Birchall/Rousseau kept the Crowes honest, a shade past seven seconds covered them at Ramsey Hairpin.
Over the Bungalow, the race lead for R.Crowe/C.Crowe was dipped up marginally to 7.983 seconds.
8.924, pretty much nine seconds in front at Cronk ny Mona, at lap one’s finalisation, the Manx brothers (standing start lap speed – 119.092 mph) led by 9.021 seconds.
Occupying third behind Birchall/Rousseau (standing start lap speed – 118.158 mph) were Molyneux/Roberts, Blackstock/Rosney held fourth, 3.715 further back.
Race Re-Start – Lap Two:
The Crowes went up levels during lap two opening stages, taking total race control through early timing sectors. John Holden/Frank Claeys, stopped at Union Mills.
Close to lap record breaking pace up to Ballaugh Bridge, was a 120-mph lap on the cards for the Crowes?
Quickly reeling in on the road, Birchall/Rousseau, pending unforeseen circumstances, it seemed a TT 2024 Sidecar double, beckoned for the sons of Sidecar TT legend Nick Crowe.
Race leaders, on the road leaders by the Bungalow, the 120-mph lap goal, was still a factor with just minutes of the race left.
The 120-mph lap was clinched (120.335 mph) alongside race honours in dominant fashion.
Birchall/Rousseau finished 20.491 seconds in arrears (first TT podium for Rousseau).
Molyneux/ new TT podium member Roberts swept up third, driver Molyneux’s first TT rostrum since 2017, his 31st in total.
Founds/Gibbons, putting to aside been black-flagged on lap one, obtained fourth. Blackstock/Rosney, the Ramsdens Steve & Matty pocketed fifth, sixth.
The Saunders John & James captured seventh as Wayne Lockey/Matty Rostron, Robert Dawson/Matthew Sims,
Conrad Harrison/Ashley Moore ended the top ten.
Remaining race finishers (17 teams in total) were Gary Gibson/Justin Sharp (11th), Derek Lynch/Anthony McDonnell (12th), solo racer turned Sidecar driver Renzo Van Der Donckt/Vale Van Der Donckt (13th).
Shaun Chandler/Ben Chandler (14th), Wiggert Kranenburg/Jermaine Van Middegaal (15th), Maria Costello MBE/Gary Wheeler (16th), John Shipley/Diarmuid Mac Reamoinn (17th).
