TT 2022: Thursday Solo Practice Wrap Up

In addition to setting the first 133-mph lap of TT 2022, outright lap record holder Peter Hickman also tonight topped the Superstock, Super Twins times sheet.

Superstock wise, Hickman’s standing start lap speed of 129.91, left him firmly at the helm of the stock 1000 category, keeping at bay leading names such as Davey Todd, Conor Cummins and Ian Hutchinson.

Twins wise, it wasn’t as clear cut to put it mildly! On his flying lap aboard the VAS Engine Racing Paton, he lapped at 120.994 mph.

This lap speed was almost, almost surpassed by a determined Michael Dunlop, who lapped at 120.965 mph, just 0.267 down on his fellow multi-TT Champion’s best lap speed.

Although edged out off P1 in the Super Twins class, Dunlop was most definitely P1 in terms of Supersport runners this evening.

Hitting the sweet spot with his own teams YZF R6 Yamaha, the Ballymoney roads legend registered the fastest Supersport lap-speed of practice week to date, lapping at 126.662 mph.

Lead chasers to Dunlop’s rapid turn of pace were DAO Racing’s Dean Harrison (125.653), Jamie Coward (125.213) and for a while fastest 600 machinery pilot, Lee Johnston (125.202).

Newcomers:

All seven of the solo TT newcomers for 2022, registered new personal best lap speeds tonight.

Honda Racing’s Glenn Irwin aboard his Superstock Fireblade Honda steed, lapped at an incredible 126.689 mph.

DP Coldplaning/TC Racing’s Milo Ward lapped at 121 mph plus whilst Team ILR/Mark Coverdale’s Joe Loughlin also nudged over the 120-mph lap mark.

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb winner Rennie Scaysbrook (117.079) is continuing to gradually increase his confidence, application, pace around the Mountain Course.

The same vibes are applicable to Jamie Cringle (115.695), Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Ilja Caljouw (113.807) and Craig Szczypek (103.863).
