I’ve often stated that some stats are scarcely believable, here’s another since 2020, 126 racers have gained at least one top three finish from Irish road racing meetings.
Top of the pile in terms of top three placing’s across the past three years, is this year’s Irish Road Race Superbike Champion Michael Sweeney (23 podium finishes).
Lightweight Manx GP winner Michael Browne, yesteryear machinery specialist Richard Ford have both acquired 17 finishes of third or better.
Others to gain ten plus Irish roads top three finishes post 2020, are showcased below:
(Number of top 3 finishes gained, located near racer’s name)
Barry Davidson (16), Keelim Ryan (14), John Leigh Pemberton (13), Michael Gillan (13).
RJ Woolsey (13), Germany’s Chris Meyer (12), Steve Henshaw Gold Cup victor Adam McLean (12), Darryl Tweed (11) and National Superstock 1000 Champion, Armoy lap record holder Davey Todd (10).
Outside of those achieving this feat, a further 18 competitors have banked five or more top three finishes including Michael Dunlop (9), Paul Jordan (7), Derek McGee (5) and the Isle of Wight’s Ryan Whitehall (5).
Shameless plug time now! If your keen to improve your knowledge on pure road racing, keen to know that stat you’ve always wanted to know, why not check out the Road Racing News Facts book, the ideal present for a budding roads scene aficionado.
