Spring Cup Preview Part 2 – Super Twin Races

Spring Cup Preview Part 2 – Super Twin Races
The nimble, great handling Super Twin machines consistently produce top class competition at Scarborough and expect no different next weekend as a host of prominent 650 specialists, TT rostrum finishers, leading new wave roads talents do battle for class honours.

650 Twins lap record holder around England’s sole active real roads circuit, Hebden Bridge’s Jamie Coward starts for many the prime favourite for class spoils.

14 times a race winner at Oliver’s Mount, he’s going to take some stopping next week as he pilots the ultra potent KTS Racing Kawasaki steed.

Welsh roads legend Ian Lougher latest Scarborough racing venture sees him pilot the ultra-competitive, proven Team ILR with Mark Coverdale S1-R Paton.

Although now considered a racing veteran, underestimate the 10 times TT winner at your peril, he still has the hunger, desire to acquire more first-class results.

Team mate/protege Jim Hind four times a race winner at last year’s Barry Sheene Classic, is already a dab hand around the Mount and is widely tipped as a dark horse for race wins.

Same notion applies to Cowton Racing’s Dominic Herbertson. The ebullient Herbertson has gone from strength to strength at recent Scarborough meetings and is more than capable of contending next week for class honours.

The 2018 Junior Classic TT winner knows though that the opposition will be of world class quality.

Additional top three finishing contenders include Oliver’s Mount returnee Adam McLean, who links up with Robbie Silvester’s VRS Racing squad that is also running Tadcaster’s Brad Vicars.

Dafabet Racing’s Rob Hodson, 2019 IRRC Superbike Champion Davey Todd are added ones to watch whilst further depth to the 40 + strong entry is provided by the following:

2019 Steve Henshaw Gold Cup runner-up Mike Norbury (DC Racing), Dave Hewson (Obsession Engineering Ltd), Matt Rees (HeatTech Racing), Rhys Hardisty, ‘Tommy Club’ member Dan Ingham, Mark Purslow.

Roddy Taylor, local favourite Nick Anderson, Jack Fowler, Gary Graves, Gary Broughton, Jim Hodson (Dafabet Racing), the Isle of Wight’s Ryan Whitehall.

Newcomers wise, Scarborough debutants hoping to make quite the impression include BE Racing’s Michael Browne, Eric Wilson and new HeatTech Racing signing Thomas Maxwell.

All that’s left to say is roll on next week’s race action, as competitors battle it out for 650cc Super Twin victory spoils at the unique, fabled, illustrious, iconic road race circuit that is Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough.
