Persistence is the word I took away from day two of the Bob Smith Spring Cup.
Why would I state persistence, well it relates to the hard-working organisers, the various new marshals and racers including new Bob Smith Spring Cup Champion Joey Thompson.
A see saw battle between him and SMT Racing’s Rob Hodson, ended with York’s Thompson holding onto P1, emerging just under 0.4 of a second ahead at the race’s conclusion.
Third went to pole sitter, Supersport A race 2 victor Dominic Herbertson ahead of the impressive Gary McCoy.
Cowton Racing’s Herbertson in the prior Super Twins race, had slid off out of contention.
Similar poor fortunes struck Team ILR with Frog Vehicle Developments Joe Yeardsley, who on the sixth, final lap tipped off at Farm Bends whilst on course for a maiden Scarborough success.
Yeardsley’s demise enabled the above featured Rob Hodson, to speed to a second Twins triumph ahead of Welshman Rhys Hardisty with Mad Bros Racing’s McCoy placing third.
Ian Lougher, made it who knows, 150, 155? Victories at Scarborough after a dominant victory in the final Lightweights encounter.
Lee Crawford/Jake Lowther proved peerless in Sunday’s sun-kissed Sidecars stints whilst Supersport (B), Classic Superbike race-2, race-3 honours went to Josh Leaning who also headed the CB 500’s category and 2016 Senior Manx GP winner Tom Weeden.
Roddy Taylor claimed both JMS Support races with overall RST Supersport winner, the aforementioned Dominic Herbertson, holding off a charging Gary McCoy for final Supersport (A) honours.
In my opinion one of the best Spring Cup meetings of recent times and an exceptionally well organised one.
Yes, the big names, depending upon who you consider big names were not competing but it didn’t detract from the quality of racing.
In-fact I’d state the racing was much closer, more intriguing and enabled specific competitors their moment in the limelight.
