On Friday afternoon, just before a fair rain shower, I managed an impromptu chat with one of Aberdare Park’s all-time great exponents, Alex Sinclair.
Participating for just the second time at Oliver’s Mount, Sinclair three times a Manx GP podium finisher, would go onto finish overall second, first Classics, Classic 500 pilot home in the opening Road Racing News Lightweights/Classics race.
Prior to these accomplishments, the G50 Matchless propelled racer who also was astride during the Barry Sheene Festival, 748 Ducati exotica thanks to support from Louigi Moto/Richard Llewellin, explained that one of the main reasons for taking in the two-day meeting, was to gain more, solid track-time ahead of his latest Manx Grand Prix expedition.
“I’d done Gold Cup last year on the Aprilia, first time on the classics. Just a little bed in for the Manx, we’ve had a bit of trouble with the 500 on the short circuits so come here with no pressure just to get it bedded in ready for the Manx.”
13 times a race winner in a day at Aberdare Park back in 2016, Sinclair is hugely looking forward to tackling again his nations’ only active road race.
“It’s only ten minutes from me and apparently it’s only Ian Lougher who’s only won more races round there than me, so I need to change that as well you know!”
Expect ‘Foxy’ to contend again for top class results at Aberdare, which has prime time TV coverage this year, as part of the ITV4 aired series, King of The Roads.
