A relative new name to roads scene fans, Keelim Ryan has enjoyed a tremendous first full season of Irish road racing.
Seven times a race winner, taking overall 11 podium finishes, he’s secured three Championship titles this season including Irish Road Race Lightweight Supersport, Senior Support successes.
Recently I caught up with the Banagher racer, to chat about a range of topics including prime highlights of the season past, potential Mountain Course endeavours and future plans.
Our uncontrived conversation, reads as follows:
Road Racing News:
For many roads insiders you are a relative new name to the roads scene, what made you decide to have a go at pure road racing?
K.Ryan:
“I’ve always been a fan of road racing and previously raced about 10 years ago in New Zealand including their street circuits but due to finances I couldn’t afford to race in Ireland until 2018 and also due to covid delaying things.
So, this has finally been my first full season on the roads.”
Road Racing News:
Has it sunk in, that you are now a multiple Irish Road Race Champion?
K.Ryan:
“No! Not really just yet. It’s been an unbelievable season with some amazing races and results over the year!”
Road Racing News:
If you could single out one moment that meant the most to you throughout the past season, what would it be?
K.Ryan:
“Possibly the senior support win in Armoy, managed to make a good start and just put my head down and had a comfortable gap and was under the previous lap record during the race.”
Road Racing News:
You’ve impressed this year aboard Lightweight Supersport, 600 machinery, have you at present a favourite class?
K.Ryan:
“It’s very hard to pick one as they are both great fun to ride but I think the FR450 takes it as it’s just an unbelievable little bike.
Super sharp handling and enough power to make things interesting. Should be better next year with more of them on the grid.”
Road Racing News:
Any ambitions about tackling the Mountain Course in future years?
K.Ryan:
“Yes, I’d like to try get to the Manx in 2023 but will have to see what the funds look like before committing to anything.”
Road Racing News:
Looking towards 2023, are you planning to stick with the Faraldo Racing team?
K.Ryan:
“Yes, hopefully I’ll be back onboard a Faraldo Racing bike of some description.”
