By For many the standout pure road racer of 2022, Milenco by Padgetts Davey Todd has shone and some throughout the past six months.
Four times a second-place finisher, surpassing the prior existing lap-record at the North West 200 in May, a first time TT podium finisher in June, July saw him take nine wins in total plus the Southern 100 Solo Championship, Armoy ‘Race of Legends’ titles.
Alongside firmly establishing himself as an elite International roads exponent, he’s also starred at British Championship level, presently leading the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship.
Before dominating the past weekend’s Supersport A races at the 70th Scarborough Gold Cup, Road Racing News caught up with the easy going, extremely talented racer.
Our uncontrived conversation, reads as follows:
Road Racing News:
Good morning, Davey, great to see you at Scarborough but before we talk about Scarborough, it’s great to see that you got your first win recently in the National Superstock Championship, so how are you feeling about how you are doing in that?
D.Todd:
“Honestly over the moon with how it’s been going at British Championship. I know, we’ve only just got my first win their last weekend but all season long we’ve been on the podium what six times previously and we were second in the Championship, now got our first win and leading it.
This shows how consistent we have been, we’ve been there week in week out.
I’ve been progressing, the bikes have always been mint, the team has been doing an awesome job.
I’ve just been learning a lot at BSB this season, just really enjoying my racing as well, everywhere we’ve gone this year, I’ve enjoyed it so much, had so much fun, whether short circuit or road racing.
Obviously after lots more success on the roads this year, really excited to come here and compete in my local race at Scarborough.”
Road Racing News:
Well, it’s good to see that you are supporting your local race, Clive (Padgett) has been associated with Scarborough for many years, so how do you think this weekend will go cause obviously you’ve got your British Championship to think about as well or doesn’t a road racer think like that?
D:Todd:
“To be honest you don’t plan on crashing at the end of the day, I’m here to enjoy it, Clive (Padgett) will remind me to remember to have fun.
Have got the 250, which is always an absolute dream to ride but you’ve also got to respect it in the same breath.
It’ll be an experience for me learning to ride that 250 especially around Scarborough with the hairpins.
The 600, I know really well, rode a lot this year, Armoy, TT, North West at the Southern, got on really well with this bike so really excited to get out on that, feel at home on that.
It’s my home race, really excited to see all the local people, local fans out here supporting the event.”
Road Racing News:
Last time you were here you came second, so doing that and you’re on a bike here you know inside out, how much of an advantage will this give you on the other bike that you was on, with no disrespect to your previous team.
D.Todd:
“100 percent, I rode the Wilson Craig bike last year and I’d literally jumped on it the week before Scarborough, for an afternoon’s testing in Northern Ireland.
We just came here and rode it and we were over the moon with second, it was an awesome result for me and the team.
But here jumping on this 600, that I have won a lot of races on this year, I’ve battled for wins at some big International road races, I know this bike inside out.
I know my team inside out, you know we’ve been working really well this year, so just excited to get out there and obviously I’d be lying if said I didn’t want to win.”
Road Racing News:
One final question, do you think you will be back with Clive’s (Padgett) team next year?
D.Todd:
“I’m certainly hoping so, got to work out a few things yet but I have no complaints with the team.
Obviously, I’ve loved this season, I’ve never more comfortable with a bunch of guys that I have around me right now.
It’s an awesome place to be, it really is and anybody would tell you that, so, I’m not really looking to go anywhere else.”
