Maintaining the form that secured him the coveted Robert Holden Memorial feature race title at Whanganui, Damon Rees enjoyed a near faultless opening 2021 New Zealand Superbike Championship round at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park.
Rees competing as on Boxing Day under the Rees Racing banner, sped to opening Superbike honours, taking race spoils by nigh on 1.9 seconds over elder brother Mitch Rees.
Superbike Race two saw the new Ashcourt Racing team addition in prime contention for P1, before a mechanical problem on the 11th and final lap derailed his chance of back to back SBK triumphs.
Better fortunes arose in the non Championship New Zealand Superbike race, with the Carl Cox Motorsport backed competitor taking the honours from the twice red flagged race.
Aside from the Rees family, others with prominent street racing pedigrees claiming strong results included Scott Moir, Sloan ‘Chopper’ Frost, Seth Devereux Jayden Carrick.
Daniel Mettam, Supersport front runners Dale Finch & Rogan Chandler, Zak Fuller, Karl Hooper, four times top forty Manx GP finisher Nick Southerwood and Sidecar pace setters Barry Smith/Stu Dawe.
