Tight action, three wheeling aces, ambitions fulfilled were just some of the terms to sum up the 2022-2023 New Zealand Superbike Championship, support classes season finale at Taupo Motorsport Park.
Already crowned Superbike Champion, Mitch Rees concluded what has been a momentous 2023 campaign, with a brace of victories.
Top chaser to Rees in the opening SBK races was illustrious father Tony (Rees), who if you aren’t already aware has claimed the Robert Holden Memorial feature race title at Whanganui, on no less than seven occasions.
Final Superbike proceedings on Sunday saw Cemetery Circuit Races lap record holder Rees (Mitch), have to give second best to Alastair Hoogenboezem, finishing 1.206 seconds in arrears despite setting the fastest lap of the race.
Fellow Cemetery Circuit Races specialist Scott Moir placed fourth behind, aforementioned Bluff Hill Climb victor Tony Rees whilst added NZ street racing favourites, illustrating fine form at Taupo included:
Supersport front runner Rogan Chandler, Luca Durning, Sidecar pace setters Adam Unsworth/Bryce Rose.
Not forgetting fellow respected driver/passenger partnerships, Barry Smith/Stu Dawe and Tracey Bryan/Jo Mickleson.
