Oliver’s Mount Top 8: Tim Walsh

Next to take part in Road Racing News, revamped Oliver’s Mount Top 8 series is Supersport 400 specialist, seventh place finisher in the most recent, Ultra Lightweight Manx Grand Prix edition, Tim Walsh.

Five times P1 from North Yorkshire ‘Mini TT’ racing outings, his answers to the set of questions, are as follows:

Q1: First memory of Oliver’s Mount?

“My first riding memory of Oliver mount was lining up on pole position during the 2020 Barry Sheene (Classic) meeting, then thinking don’t mess this up, then that feeling of a lights to flag finish, one very proud moment, the crowd were clapping and it felt amazing.”

Q2: Favourite part about racing at the mount?

“The atmosphere is amazing, I love meeting and talking to the fans in the paddock , then heading up in the evening to the entertainment and sharing experiences with the fans and other riders. The mount is a relaxed place, well organised and the track is class.”

Q3: Favourite section of Scarborough course?

“Esses in and esses out , it’s great turning in with your knee on the deck, seeing the crowd, then left onto the back straight, the crowd are so close and it must be amazing for them.”

Q4: Best moment thus far at Scarborough?

“Taking two wins on the 400 back to back (2024 Bob Smith Spring Cup) and crossing the line after a hard fought battle.”

Q5: All time Scarborough racing hero?

“Has to be Lee Johnston, always watched him and it inspired me to take the leap of faith and work for my national license and race the circuit, it’s fantastic watching, but amazing racing it.”

Q6: Is there one machine in particular that you would like to race at Scarborough?

“I love racing my RVF 400 (Honda) around Oliver’s, but to race a Honda RS 250 2- stroke would be my dream, especially during the Barry Sheene events.”

Q7: One word to describe Oliver’s Mount?

“Exhilarating”

Q8: Most respected racing rival at Scarborough?

“In 2023 myself and Kelly Carruthers were fighting for the 400cc 4-Stroke championship, we raced hard on the track, but we became friends, and we helped each other where we could, and we have always kept in touch, and we continue to race other road race circuits!

Kelly won the championship that year, he deserved it, but I learnt a lot from him.”
